MCIS AWARDS 2013
Eight individuals and groups have been chosen as the winners of this year’s MCIS 2013 Award program for making Canadian and international landscapes better and more accessible places for life and work. Ranging from translation to interpretation, to individuals who have dedicated their professional time to help us build a better business practices, the winners this year once again demonstrated creativity, resourcefulness, and persistence to improving quality of language industry in Canada. Selection of this year’s winners was done by several specialized groups under the chairmanship of MCIS staff.
The keywords guiding our choices are derived from sustainable business principles, such as:

Interdependence - Understanding how people, the environment, the economy are inextricably linked at all levels from local to global.

Citizenship & Stewardship - recognizing the importance of taking individual responsibility and action to ensure the world is a better place.

Needs and rights of future generations - understanding our own basic needs and the implications for the needs of future generations of actions taken today.

Diversity - Respecting and valuing both human diversity – cultural, social and economic – and biodiversity.

Quality of Life - Acknowledging that global equity and justice are essential elements of sustainability and that basic needs must be met universally.

Sustainable change - Understanding that resources are finite and that this has implications for people’s lifestyles, and for commerce and industry.

Uncertainty and precaution - Acknowledging that there is a range of possible approaches to sustainability and that situations are constantly changing, a need for flexibility and lifelong learning.
The MCIS' Global Community Partner of the Year recognizes the of legacy of leadership, community and vision for addressing issues of community sustainability and acknowledges the impact organizations have on the various issues facing communities, especially marginalized groups. The awards ceremony to honour this year’s exceptional community leaders will be held on during the AGM meeting on October 16th, 2013 at the Forrester's Conference Centre during the AGM.

INTERPRETER OF THE YEAR - IGOR TRUTANOW
MCIS Interpreter of the Year Award is given to accredited interpretive guide who has demonstrated not only excellence in services delivered but also dedication and proficiency in the field of professional interpretation.
The winner of 2013 Award is Igor Trutanow, and runners-up are Erica Ravanelli and Wakil Kler.
MCIS Translator of the Year Award is given to a tranlsator for outstanding professional contribution in removing the language barriers, for their responsiveness, reliablility and accurate translations. Due to the nature, complexity of work and variety of clients, we have nominated Adrijana Jerkic as MCIS 2013 Translator of the Year, and to acknowledge runners-up: Laszlo Prising and Makhala Taylor-Dube.
MCIS Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes one individual selected from among our Volunteers of the Year for his/her outstanding achievements in the community and for upholding our MCIS values.
